Looking Spectacular this Week:
Taxodium distichum (1 May 2014) Taxodium distichum, commonly known as Swamp Cypress, is one tree hard to miss in Canberra and surrounds at this time of year. The tree’s fine needle-like foliage turns the most spectacular burnt orange during autumn, giving off a lovely amber glow on a cool, sunny afternoon. Its large round seeds further add to its appeal. Swamp cypress is a lovely tree in all seasons with its vibrant green foliage in spring, its striking colour during autumn, and stark architectural qualities on full show during the depths of winter. And as its name suggests, Swamp Cypress requires reliable moisture to perform well. |
