Local invention: Downpipe Garden
(29th October 2015) Borne from a local builder’s frustration with the lack of overall function and aesthetics of downpipe guttering on urban buildings, the Downpipe Garden makes use of otherwise wasted vertical space to grow a variety of pot plants. The durable plastic pots slot easily into the housing with no skill or tools required (I managed to install one myself, which is noteworthy considering my distinct lack of DIY prowess). The Downpipe Garden can be converted to self-watering by drilling a hole in the offset of the down pipe and sticking the off cut of a cable tie in the hole to create a drip point. Downpipe Gardens are available for $58 plus $10 p & h (two pot system, which can be added to). For more: www.facebook.com/Downpipe-Garden-1468354706816128/?fref=ts |
